佛教
How to Understand
佛教 (fó jiào) refers to the religion founded by Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha. It emphasizes spiritual enlightenment, the cycle of rebirth, and the path to liberation from suffering through ethical conduct, meditation, and wisdom.
The character 佛 (fó) means 'Buddha' or 'Bodhisattva,' while 教 (jiāo) means 'teaching' or 'religion.' Together, they signify the teachings of the Buddha, making 佛教 a direct reference to Buddhism as a structured faith.
佛教 is widely practiced in East Asia, with significant influence on culture, philosophy, and daily life. It is often contrasted with other religions like Taoism and Confucianism. In modern contexts, it may also appear in discussions about historical heritage, art, or philosophical study.
