观音

观音 is the Chinese name for the Bodhisattva of compassion, known in English as Guanyin. She is a central figure in Mahayana Buddhism and is often depicted as a compassionate female deity who hears the cries of the world and offers salvation.
The character 观 (guān) means 'to observe' or 'to look,' and 音 (yīn) means 'sound' or 'voice.' Together, they imply 'the one who listens to the sounds of the world,' reflecting her role as a listener and helper to those in need.
观音 is widely revered in East Asian cultures, especially in China, Japan, and Korea. She is often shown holding a vase of water or a willow branch, symbols of purity and healing. Devotees may pray to her for protection, guidance, and mercy. Her image is common in temples, homes, and even on jewelry and amulets.
