轻工业
How to Understand
轻工业 refers to the branch of manufacturing that produces consumer goods, typically involving less complex processes and lower capital investment compared to heavy industry. It includes products like textiles, food processing, and household items.
The character 轻 (qīng) means 'light' or 'not heavy,' implying a less intensive production process. 工 (gōng) means 'work' or 'industry,' and 业 (yè) means 'profession' or 'industry.' Together, they describe industries that are less resource-intensive and more focused on daily consumer needs.
轻工业 plays a significant role in economic development, especially in countries with large populations and growing middle classes. It is often contrasted with 重工业 (zhòng gōng yè), or heavy industry, which involves larger-scale production and infrastructure development.
