满洲

满洲 (mǎn zhōu) is a historical region in northeastern China, now known as the three northeastern provinces: Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. It was once referred to as Manchuria by Westerners and has significant historical and cultural importance.

The character 满 (mǎn) means 'full' or 'satisfied,' while 洲 (zhōu) means 'continent' or 'region.' Together, they refer to a large area, historically associated with the Manchu people, an ethnic group that ruled China during the Qing Dynasty.
