The character 气 (qì) originally meant 'air' or 'spirit,' and later came to represent 'atmosphere' or 'condition.' The character 候 (hòu) means 'condition' or 'state.' Together, they form a term that describes the overall atmospheric state of an area over time.
Climate is an essential concept in geography, environmental science, and daily life. People often discuss climate when planning travel, farming, or understanding regional differences. In Chinese culture, climate influences traditional practices such as agricultural cycles and seasonal festivals.
