熟悉
How to Understand
熟悉 means 'familiar with' or 'well-versed in.' It describes a state of knowing something well, often through experience or repeated exposure. Unlike 'know,' which can be more general, 熟悉 implies a deeper, more practical understanding.
The character 熟 (shú) originally meant 'cooked' or 'ripe,' symbolizing something fully developed or ready. 悉 (xī) means 'to know' or 'to understand.' Together, they convey the idea of being thoroughly acquainted with something.
熟悉 is commonly used in academic, professional, and everyday contexts to express competence or familiarity with a subject. For example, a teacher might say 学生对这个主题很熟悉 (The students are familiar with this topic). It's also used in phrases like 熟悉环境 (familiar with the environment) or 熟悉流程 (familiar with the process).
