学习 (xuéxí) means 'to study' or 'to learn.' It refers to the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, or understanding through practice, observation, or instruction. Unlike 'study,' which often implies formal education, 'learn' can encompass both structured and informal learning experiences.
The character 学 (xué) originally meant 'to study' or 'learning,' while 习 (xí) means 'to practice' or 'to become familiar with.' Together, they emphasize the combination of theoretical understanding and practical application in the learning process.
